Do you desire a more joyful and stress-free life? Seek wisdom.

I’ve come to understand that attaining wisdom is the best way to move through life. For years, I’ve collected snippets of wisdom in my quest to accumulate insight and understanding. Wisdom is a gift from God, so I also read a chapter from the Book of Proverbs regularly (daily). There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, so there’s a chapter corresponding to each day of the month. If you miss a day, don't stress—just read whatever chapter corresponds to the day of the month.

According to the Bible, wisdom is a God-given ability to apply knowledge and understanding to real-life situations, leading to a practical and God-centered discernment.

For the next several weeks, I’m going to share some of my wisdom snippets. I hope this advice helps you.

  1. God is real! Make every effort to get to know Him. (This is tip #1!)

  2. A little appreciation goes a long way. Don't take folks for granted.

  3. It’s not always about you.

  4. No one needs to be kind to you, so appreciate any kindness shown. This one was a hard-earned lesson, but is so, so true.

  5. It’s always windiest on garbage day. Don’t gripe about it. As I'm putting together this post, the wind in Colorado is terrifying. The wind is my least favorite weather element.

  6. Be thankful to God for your blessings. When you count them up it will make you happy. This may sound trite, but it's true.

  7. If someone gossips to you about others, chances are they’re gossiping about you too. Be on guard in the presence of a gossip, maybe just make yourself scarce when that person is around. Gossips use others' info as currency to elevate their ego. It never ends well.

  8. If you’re not sure something in the fridge is good or spoiled, throw it away. It’s better to lose the few dollars the item costs than to get food poisoning.

  9. Choose friends you can admire. Bad company corrupts good character, but good company elevates you. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17.

  10. There’s always something to be thankful for. I always believed this, but I got to practice it in real life after a burn accident that knocked me off my feet for months and rendered me helpless.

  11. You won’t be successful at everything you undertake. That’s okay. Move on. If you don't try, you'll never know.

  12. Life is hard, but God is good! This was proven to me as I've been recovering from my accident, 15 months ago. Whenever I needed encouragement, the Lord made sure I got it.

  13. It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.

  14. If someone’s determined to be mad, there’s nothing you can do about it. Just as long as you have a clear conscience, move on.

  15. Rain must fall for flowers to bloom. Every day can’t be filled with sunshine.

  16. There will be sorrow in your life. However: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

  17. It’s best to forgive, no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is. Forgive. You don't need an apology or even need to see that person again, but for your sanity, forgive and move on.

  18. The truth is always the easiest and best “excuse.”

  19. Eat a good breakfast, with some protein, every day. Your body will thank you.

  20. Take time to enjoy nature. Breathe in the fragrances, listen to the sounds, it will soothe your spirit. Besides, it's good for your overall health.

  21. Read something every day, it will expand your world.

I hope you like my list. Saving snippets has always been a good way to affirm that I'm doing my best and to help me move through difficult situations.

Stop by April 1st for part two, or read it here.
