How to react when you doubt your faith

Yesterday, while I was eating breakfast and reading my Bible, I had an upsetting thought:

Maybe I don't trust God.

The idea pretty much snapped my head back, but moments later another realization came. Yes, I DO trust God, but I don't have enough patience while I wait.

My guess is that many of us are waiting for answers to prayer.

Waiting isn't fun. Because it soothes me, and because I believe it's what God wants me to do, I searched scripture for encouragement.

I'm happy to share some for you, just in case you need it too.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34

When you find comforting scripture, I believe it helps your faith to grow.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

Remember, if you're a Christ follower, you're not in this alone!

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16

As I found scripture after scripture to encourage me, I began to feel a bit foolish for having my original thought. But then, we're all human, right?

This final verse really warmed my heart:

You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me. Psalm 139:5 The Passion Translation (TPT)

As crazy as it sounds, sometimes I have to remind myself that for two decades, I've declared myself a prisoner of hope. I cling to that title, and it's gotten me through some pretty dark moments in the past 20 years.

Take heart, have faith, friends. And keep praying!
