Slow down this Christmas season, and here's how to do it.

If you don't purpose to slow down and savor the beauty of the season, it won't happen.

Here's some advice to slow down and savor Christmas:

  • Make your favorite hot beverage, turn on the Christmas tree lights, sit down, and chill out. Give yourself a few minutes to just b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

  • Listen to some Christmas carols. Sing along, if you'd like. Soak in the meaning of Christmas.

  • Pray to Emmanuel (God with us!), and be quiet to listen to His leading.

If you'd like a more structured way to dwell on the reason for this holy season, here are seven texts about Christmas that you can read and ponder. If you'd like, you can meditate on one text each day for a week.

  1. Isaiah 7:10-14 (The prophecy about the virgin birth)

  2. Isaiah 9:6-7 (Wonderful Counselor . . .)

  3. Isaiah 53:4-6 (And read the whole chapter!)

  4. Mica 5:2 (The prophecy about Bethlehem)

  5. Matthew 2:1-6 (The Magi's visit the Messiah)

  6. Luke 2:1-7 (The birth of Jesus)

  7. John 1:1-14 (The Word became flesh)

Give yourself the gift of a few moments of peace this Christmas season. I bet you'll find refreshment you didn't expect.
